An exquisite peak in close proximity to Rathong Glacier, Frey Peak lies near the Kabru sister of peaks boasting two imposing summits i.e. Kokthang and Rathong Peak. The trek involves passing through the absorbing Frey Glacier. The trail is mostly rocky and includes snow in the gaps. The summit is named after the renowned mountaineer George Frey who attempted climbing the peak with Tenzing Norgey. The axe and crampons are still present at the base of the peak as a memorial. The trail offers a stunning landscape and allows the trekkers to relish the undulating beauty of nature.
 
This 16 nights and 17 days itinerary takes the travelers to Frey Peak Expedition in a comprehensive and gratifying manner. Through this tour, the trekkers can test their endurance and explore gripping regions like Tshoka, Yuksom, Chaurikhang and many more.

DAY 01: ARRIVE DELHI

Welcome to Delhi - a city where hospitality is a way of life; to a culture steeped in tradition, a land where history lives in music and dance. You will be received at the airport in a traditional manner with garlands and proceed to your hotel.

Later in the day visit IMF to have a briefing with IMF director and LO. Overnight stay in hotel.

DAY 02: DELHI – BAGDOGRA - GANGTOK - FLIGHT DRIVE 125 KM

Fly to Bagdogra and drive 125 Km to Gangtok (1650 Mt); Upon arrival check in the hotel for overnight stay.

DAY 03: GANGTOK (2045 M)

Day for acclimatisation and complete paper work for Frey Peak Climbing Expedition. Dinner and Overnight stay at the hotel.

DAY 04: GANGTOK – YUKSUM (1780 M) - DRIVE 130 KMS

Morning after breakfast drive to Yuksum (1780 M) – The oldest capital of Sikkim via Malli. Yuksum is the base for Dzongri Trek and Frey peak. Overnight stay in hotel/camp.

DAY 05: YUKSUM – SACHEN ( Altd 2550 M )

Trek from Yuksum to Sachen9 kms time taken approx. 5/6 hrs. Trek begins with a low gradient until you cross Sachen and the third bridge , Walk through dense forest of pine and oak after crossing river PrekChu it is straight 70 degree uphill climb this is the toughest stage in the entire trek , It will last for 2 Hrs depends on the fitness of the clients Finally we will come to Bakhim this is just a resting point for the first day. This campsite has only one hut of forest department in the hilly dense forest. Overnight at Camp or tourist hut.

DAY 06: SACHEN – TSHOKA (Alt. 3050 M)

 Trek then we reach Sachen the trail from Sachen passes through magnolia and rhododendron trees the most tiring uphill climb. Tshoka is a small village housing about twelve thatched roof houses mainly Tibetan settlement .If weather remains clear we can see Mount Pandim, Aralunchong, Lama –Lamini,Pandim. Overnight in Tent

DAY 07: DZONGRI

On this day the trail passes through the village of Tsokha and continues to climb north through the forest of rhododendron to the alp of Phedang (3650 m) taking around 3 hrs to complete the ascent. Continue further towards Dzongri. On arrival set campsite for dinner and overnight stay.

DAY 08: ACCLIMATIZATION AT DZONGRI (4030 mts) - TREK

The day is free for rest and acclimatization. On this day, one can see the beautiful views of the mountain peaks by climbing up to Dzongri Top. From here, you get a panoramic view of Kabru (7353 mts), Ratong (6678 mts), Kanchenjunga (8534 mts), Koktang (6147 mts), Pandim (6691 mts) and Narsingh (5825 mts). Towards the west, the Singalila Ridge, which separates Sikkim from Nepal, can be seen. Enjoy an overnight stay at Dzongri in Tent/ Trekkers hut.

DAY 09: DZONGRI - CHAURIKHANG (4450 mts/14600 ft) (13kms/6/7 hrs)

In the morning, we will follow the trek to Chaurikhang 14,600 ft which begins with a magnificent panoramic view of various peaks. Soon after leaving Dzongri, you will find that the trial is more or less steep up to Dzongri La Pass, from where the first sight of Chaurikhang and Rathong River is seen. After resting a while here, the trek is downhill through the slopes towards the Bikhbari. It is a beautiful trial to walk on surrounded by huge mountains. The trek again becomes little tough as we will be approaching Chaurikhang. It will be little tiring from Bikhbari. Enjoy a night stay in tents at Chaurikhang.

DAY 10: Rest Day in Chaurikhang, Acclimations (4450 mts/14600 ft)

The day is free for acclimations and preparation for climbing the next day and checking equipments as tough part of expedition starts from here. An overnight stay in tents in Chaurikhang.

DAY 11: Chaurikhang - ABC (Advance Base Camp) (5090mts) (5/6 hrs)

Today, we will walk on trek from Churikhang to Frey ABC, which is steep uphill trek with moraines making harder to walk. Note that only essentials supplies will be shifted to ABC leaving unnecessary items in Chaurikhang only. Enjoy a night stay in tents in ABC.

DAY 12: ABC - Route opening for Summit - ABC

The day will be used for opening route from advance base camp to below summit of Frey peak. Our team of climbing guide will fix the rope for your safety till below the summit of Frey since 300 ft of the route is steep with boulders making it risky to climb. Later return back to ABC for an overnight stay in tents.

DAY 13: Summit Day - Chaurikhang (4450 mts/14600 ft)

Today we will wake up early in the morning at around 3 am and go for summit. The route till summit is steep climb, but with equipments and our climbing guide team will make it little easy for you to reach Frey peak summit with more safety. After seeing panoramic view of surrounding with huge Rathong Glacier and High Peaks like Kabru Dome, Kabru North, Rathong and Kokthang, we will slowly descent to ABC. Later in the afternoon, we will shift down to Chaurikhang. An overnight stay at Chaurikhang in tents.

Day 14: Reserved Day for Summit

The day is reserved as an extra day as in mountains weather keeps changing, which plays a vital role for any expedition to make it unsuccessful.

Day 14: Chaurikhang - Tshoka (22kms - 7-8 hrs)

Today, we will trek from Chaurikhang to Tshoka, which will be a long trek but you will find it easier while walking down after staying in high altitude for some days. Once you will cross Dzongri pass and then Dzongri, you will find it easy to walk as level of oxygen will grow more as you go down. An overnight stay in Tshoka.

Day 15: Tshoka - Yuksom (14 kms - 5-6 hrs) - Gangtok (123 kms 6-7 hrs)

In the morning, we will move back towards Yuksom from Tshoka on the final day of the trek. The trek will be quite easier as the path is mainly downhill. From here, we will drive to Gangtok. Enjoy dinner followed by an overnight stay in the hotel in Darjeeling.

Day 16: GANGTOK - BAGDOGRA - DELHI DRIVE 160 KM FLIGHT

Transfer to Bagdogra airport. Arrive Delhi and transfer to hotel. Afternoon free at leisure. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 17: DELHI DEPART

Morning free for individual activities. After Breakfast debriefing at IMF Delhi with LO and IMF director. Later in the day transfer to International airport to board flight for onward destination.

Please noted are following information as below.
It’s very necessary advisable to book the peaks well in advance with us in order to complete all the official formalities. Generally we obtain the permit in a period of one week. Rescue operations during emergencies and accidents are looked after by the liaison officer who will coordinate with us and government machinery.
 
Expedition ensured that the mountain was left pristine and all non bio -degradable items were brought back and disposed. All major group equipment was supplied by organizer consisting of carabiners, ice bars, dead-man, climbing ropes, Ice axe, ascenders, descenders, crampons etc. of International climbing standards. The vertical climb of more than 90 degrees was negotiated on fixed ropes and ice screws as per the plan.

Trekking and Climbing Permit
Trekking permit for restricted area needs to be obtained for this trek area. As this trek area is being officially opened in due time, a special permit needs to be obtained well in advance. Please inform all members to bring along four copies of the passport photos. The permit can be obtained in advanced by sending us the passport photocopies along with the photocopies of the Indian Visa with four -passport size photo each. The   permit Climbing is procedure takes a bit longer time- about 1 week in advance

Please ensure your insurance covers you for the heights you are likely to attain, and for a helicopter rescue and when you have chosen and booked your insurance, please provide MOUNTAIN ADVENTURE TOURS AND TRAVELS with your Insurers name, their 24-hour emergency telephone number and your Policy number with them. Remember, your insurance is not worth the paper it's written on if we don't know the details and you need their assistance.

Terms & Conditions


Booking

Your contract is with Mountain Adventure Tours & Travels. A contract exists between us when we have confirmed you on our tour / hotel booking / or any other travel related services of your choice and we have received your booking request and deposits. All correspondence/s in respect of Tours / Travel Service bookings should be addressed to Mountain Adventure Tours & Travels.

Payments

For the services contracted, 40 % advance payment should be made to hold the booking on a confirmed basis and the balance amount should be paid before commencement of your tour. We hold the right to decide upon the amount to be paid as an advance payment, based on the nature of services and the time left for the commencement of the services.

Payment Options

Payment can be made by Bank Transfer, Cash payment to our office or by Demand Draft / Cheque. All payments should be free and clear of any withholding tax and deduction. Bank charges, if any, for remittance (by remitting bank or by intermediary bank) would be strictly borne by payer.

Rights to amend the itinerary if required

Tour once commenced will strictly go as per the itinerary finalised. In case of events and circumstances beyond our control, we reserve the right to change all or parts of the contents of the itinerary for safety and well being of our esteemed passengers.

Policy Regarding Cancellation / No Show / Early Departure

In case of cancellation of tour/travel services due to any avoidable/unavoidable reason/s we must be informed in writing. Cancellation charges would be effective from the date we receive letter in writing and cancellation charges would be as follows:

  • 30 days & prior to arrival – 10% of the tour/service cost.
  • 20 days to 18 days prior to arrival – 20% of the tour/service cost.
  • 14 days to 16 days prior to arrival – 25% of the tour/service cost.
  • 10 days to 08 days prior to arrival – 50% of the tour/service cost.
  • 07 days & less, prior to arrival or no show – NO REFUND.

Please note – Irrespective of above mentioned cancellations slabs – in case of cancellation of tour services after the booking is made with us – a minimum 10% service charges would be applicable.

Refund

In case you cancel the trip after commencement refund would be restricted to a limited amount that too would depend on the amount that we would be able to recover from the hoteliers we patronize. For unused hotel accommodation, chartered transportation and missed meals etc. we do not bear any responsibility to refund.

Where as in case of Cancellation before the commencement, it will take atleast two weeks time to refund the said amount.

Our Liabilities & Limitations

Please note that after the finalization of the tour/service cost, if there are any hikes in entrance fees of monuments/museums, taxes, fuel cost or guide charges by the Govt. of India, the same would be charged as extra.

Mountain Adventure Tours & Travels act only in the capacity of agent for the hotels, airlines, transporters, railways & contractors providing other services & all exchange orders, receipts, contracts & tickets issued by us are issued subject to terms & conditions under which these services are provided by them.

All itineraries are sample itineraries, intended to give you a general idea of the likely trip schedule. Numerous factors such as weather, road conditions, the physical ability of the participants etc. may dictate itinerary changes either before the tour or while on the trail. We reserve the right to change any schedule in the interest of the trip participants’ safety, comfort & general well being.

Our rates are based on the prevailing rates as negotiated by us with the hotels, airlines etc. Hotels and Airlines retain the right to modify the rates without notice. In case of such changes the rates quoted before the modification, can be changed by us according to the modifications by hotels or airlines. All hotel bookings are based on usual check in and checkout time of the hotels until unless indicated in the itinerary.

We shall not be responsible for any delays & alterations in the programme or expenses incurred – directly or indirectly – due to natural hazards, flight cancellations, accident, breakdown of machinery or equipments, breakdown of transport, weather, sickness, landslides, political closures or any untoward incidents.

We shall not be responsible for any loss, injury or damage to person, property, or otherwise in connection with any accommodation, transportation or other services, resulting – directly or indirectly – from any act of GOD, dangers, fire, accident, breakdown in machinery or equipment, breakdown of transport, wars, civil disturbances, strikes, riots, thefts, pilferages, epidemics, medical or custom department regulations, defaults, or any other causes beyond our control.

We do not have any insurance policy covering the expenses for accident, sickness, loss due to theft, or any other reasons. Visitors are advised to seek such insurance arrangements in their home country. All baggage & personal property/s at all times are at the client’s risk.

Passports & Visas

To travel to India from overseas countries except for the citizen of Nepal & Bhutan, one needs a 06 months valid passport and a valid Visa. And processing of Passport and Visa are not included in the tour cost.

Health

Any person who has a contagious disease is forbidden to travel, any person found during the tour with such a disease will be asked to leave the tour and will have to make their own arrangements to return home.
